Breaking the dry spell with a new strip that just came to me, so I had to get it out ASAP. The start of a new season perhaps? Could be.

Locked Down but Not Out

Despite the fact I have been severely neglecting the strip for nearly a year now (where did 2010 go?), the number of new subscribers seems to be increasing at an unsettling pace. Now I know most, if not all, of these are spambots, but a few actually look like they just might be real people.

Fleshy or otherwise, the increase has motivated me to drop by to let everyone know that Life in the Bighouse is not dead. It’s simply been back-burnered due to one distraction after another.

The good news is that I have been writing (just not drawing) new strips all along, and the aforementioned distractions will certainly provide a wealth of new material for future strips. The future will also bring new characters, new topics, new turmoils and possibly a new format, so stay tuned. I can’t promise when the next strip will be posted, but I’m hoping to have at least a few new ones done by February.

So anyhoo, that’s that. Feel free to stop by and say “hi,” especially if you want to see new stuff sooner than later. The quieter critters around this place tend to get fed last—just ask the plants.

Prison break results in hospitalized detainee

Bighouse detainee, Loomis, successfully scaled the wall of the Bighouse courtyard yesterday afternoon and escaped. He avoided capture by prison officials and was on the run for approximately an hour before actually breaking back into the prison. It appears life on the outside was not what he expected. He returned, without his collar, and with a debilitating case of the gag’n'drools. Since Loomis has a history of “sampling” things that his salivary glands find objectionable (without resulting in permanent damage, at least for the cat), we kept him under observation. After several hours, his condition had not improved, and it was quite apparent he was suffering a good deal of discomfort.

The prisoner was transported to the veterinary clinic where he received a thorough examination. The examination revealed no physical damage and overall good health, but it did discover some suspect bowel contents (unsurprising for a prisoner with “Willful destruction of flip-flops” on his rap sheet). The prisoner received a couple of injections to help ease his discomfort, and was discharged with orders for continued observation. As of today, he appears to be feeling somewhat better, but will remain under close supervision.

We will keep everyone updated on his condition. In the meantime, although we hate he’s feeling poorly, we are enjoying the *silence* around here resulting from Loomis’ newfound, appreciation for staying indoors.
